Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Aug 3, 2026 – Oct 24, 2026
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Hale Centre Theatre. Run dates: Aug 3, 2026 – Oct 24, 2026. Announced. Cast, crew, posters, and production history from this Utah staging.
The Bible story of Joseph and his brothers is thousands of years old. Even though we are going to tell it in a cheeky way, the story is mostly about the powerful concept of forgiveness. What would our angry, outraged, offended world be like if more people, from high-profile figures to everyday individuals, from social media platforms to our own homes, could say the words, “I’m sorry. I was wrong,” or, “That’s okay. I forgive you”? “Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren. “And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard. “And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence. “And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. “And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. “Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.” “And he fell upon his brother Benjamin’s neck, and wept; and Benjamin wept upon his neck. “Moreover he kissed all his brethren, and wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him.” —Genesis 45:1–5, 14–15 I love this story. It is so important. And I also love this musical telling of it! I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be involved with yet another production. I have been honored to work and collaborate with the most amazingly creative, massive production staff EVER. In particular, working with Lindsey, Choreographer Extraordinaire and Resident Glue; Alex, Music Savant and Rescuer; Ramsi, Aerialist Specialist and Daredevil; and Ellen, Divine Stage Manager and Sanity Keeper, has been a pure pleasure! Thank you ALL for being patient and kind with me and all of my CRAZY ideas! Seriously. I have never actually counted how many productions of Joseph I have been involved with over the last 40 years. EEEEK! But I remember the first. City Rep opened its new little space in the back corner of the ZCMI Mall with Joseph in December 1987. It ran for nearly a year! I have little Easter eggs, homages, and tributes to my many past productions and the creative minds behind them, including the first one, sprinkled throughout this production. I knowingly and gratefully recognize their part in making me who I am. As always, my thanks to Mark and Sally. You have given me a priceless opportunity. Lastly, to my husband, Mike; my four incredible children; their spouses and loved ones; and my five exceptional grandkids: thank you for being the best part of my life. Thank you ALL for helping this dreamer’s dreams come true. — Jennifer Parker Hohl P.S. This show is dedicated to my mom, Joanne McCrea Parker, alive and kicking, and my dad, Thomas Wirthlin Parker, who passed away unexpectedly in 2017, the last time I directed Joseph. I miss him every day. When he was the president of Promised Valley Playhouse in the ’80s, he thought the people of Salt Lake would get a kick out of a little-known, early Andrew Lloyd Webber musical named Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. My parents produced a snappy little production of it in 1985, and poof, a Utah love affair with the show was born. Thanks, Mom and Dad. This one is for you. Run time: 2 hours with an Intermission
