Director's note - When I was asked to direct Disney's Descendants with a cast of actors all over the age of 45, I was excited but skeptical. How would this relatively new show, which so far has been performed almost exclusively by schools or youth community theater groups, play out with an older cast? But, being in that age range myself (I'm 57) I could see the blessing for all those actors to get to play fun roles that they wouldn't usually have the chance to perform. It has been a fun experience to watch these adults step back into high school and take on the roles of these young kids. As a cast, we've reminisced about our school days, shared old yearbook photos, and learned that while our bodies may not be able to do all the dance moves we once could, our minds and talents are as sharp as ever. I've enjoyed working with this group and the Empress Theatre for my final show in Utah. Right after this show ends, I'm moving to Colorado to follow my wife's job promotion. I love theater. It brings me calm amid the storms of life and keeps me grounded. I learn so much from every show I work on. This one, especially, has meant a lot to me as it gives a message of hope, redemption, and change. I love watching Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay grow as they learn the ways of Auradon Prep. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
